How many nights has a restless mind kept you awake as you struggled to ignore it, or divert its attention by counting sheep?
Or is your anxiety waking you up in the middle of the night with a tedious list of worries?
The next time that happens try this simple technique.
First: acknowledge your thoughts, and thank them for their help.
Second: then explain that you’d love to listen to them but that the timing is wrong.
Third: set an appointment with your mind, worry or anxiety to discuss everything with them the next day. Make the appointment for a specific time, and then go back to sleep.
The original idea came from James Altucher in a blog post he did at OwnerMag.Com.
As I worked with the technique, I found the the addition of the first and second steps to be very helpful when my mind or anxiety was a bit too persistent.
